Oxford Speedway confirms details for end-of-season party

The curtain will fall on Oxford Speedway’s regeneration campaign next month when the club hosts its first end-of-season party to conclude a breakthrough year.

Supporters are being invited to join the club’s riders, members of management and hard-working volunteers at Oxford Stadium on Saturday, November 5, from 7pm to celebrate the club’s first season back in British speedway. 

Skippers of the Cheetahs and Chargers squads Scott Nicholls and Jordan Jenkins will be in attendance with their teammates for the end-of-season do, which will be followed by a disco and buffet.

Ticketholders are being encouraged to send their favourite photos of the season to feature on a special Wall of Memories which will be on display throughout the evening too.

Oxford Speedway promoter Jamie Courtney paid tribute to the club’s fanbase who played an “overwhelming” role in ensuring speedway’s return to the city was successful.

“We knew speedway’s return to Oxford would be a big hit initially, and so that proved to be,” said Jamie. “Our challenge was, and remains, to retain the interests of those who turned out in force to our opening meetings through the season.

“While we were disappointed to miss out on the Championship Play-Offs and National League Grand Final, progress off the track has set the club up well for a positive 2023 campaign.

“It would be fantastic for as many Oxford Speedway fans as possible to join us for one final time at Sandy Lane this season and give our historic 2022 Cheetahs and Chargers squads the winter send-off they deserve.”

Speedway was the first activity to return to Oxford Stadium on April 13 following a 10-year closure for the Cowley venue which was reopened after Managing Director Kevin Boothby secured a lease from owners Galliard Homes.

Mr Boothby said speedway plays an essential role in stadium’s appeal and looks forward to hosting many more fixtures in the years to come.

“I’m hooked,” said Kevin. “I watched Boston Barracudas occasionally growing up but lost a bit of touch with speedway as I got older.

“The demand for speedway’s return to Oxford Stadium was extraordinary. Initially, we planned on running our first season in 2023 but fans’ response made it obvious we needed to race as soon as possible.

“They’ve turned out in force week in, week out, and really got behind the Cheetahs and Chargers. I’m really looking forward to marking the end of the club’s first season and celebrating our success story on and off the track with those who have helped to make it possible.”
