PREVIEW: Jordan and Sam go for Pairs glory

OXFORD CHARGERS will be represented by Jordan Jenkins and Sam Hagon in the National League Pairs at Leicester this evening (Saturday) at 7pm.

Team manager Peter Schroeck says: “We’re aiming to get through our group into the semi-finals and we’ll take it from there.

“Jordan and Sam will give it their best, since this is another chance for them to showcase their skills. Jordan is one of the very best riders in this league, while even at his young age (17), Sam already has experience of riding in big events.”

Schroeck also clarified the situation regarding the Oxford pair selected for the event.

He added: “As anyone who read my programme notes on Wednesday will know, our plans – after the injury to Nathan Stoneman – were to partner Jordan with Henry Atkins, since they have been riding together for Chargers recently and are both are on good form.

“We were blocked from doing that, since Henry is fifth in our official averages for August and we’ve been told it should be riders currently in the top three of our averages.

“But we know Sam can also do the job, and he’s keen to give it a go alongside Jordan.”

All eight National League clubs are competing and have been split into two groups of four for the qualifying stages.

The top two pairs from each group then progress to the semi-finals, with the winners of those races contesting the final. The scoring is 4-3-2-0 throughout.
