REPORT: Battling Chargers miss out at Leicester
The World Speedway Riders’ Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo slipped to a 50-38 reverse in an incident packed National League fixture against Leicester Lion Cubs on Saturday night.
Held 24-hours after it was confirmed both Chargers and Lion Cubs would meet in this year’s Grand Final over two legs, the meeting’s outcome went down to the very last race where a Lions 4-2 secured the hosts an aggregate bonus point which pushed them four points clear at the top of the league table.
It confirmed Peter Schroeck’s side will end the regular season in second place in the National League table, regardless of what happens on Wednesday night when Edinburgh Academy visit Sandy Lane.
Luke Killeen posted the biggest haul of points on the night with 12+1 from five rides while there were heat wins for Jordan Jenkins and reserve Jason Garrad.
Team Manager Peter Schroeck said after the meeting: “Leicester are a quality side and to take them to the final heat to decide the aggregate bonus point is something we should definitely be positive about.
“We’ve got one final fixture now before we can turn our focus to the Grand Final which promises to be a real thriller.”
The WSRA Oxford Chargers return to action on Wednesday, September 27, when Edinburgh Academy visit Oxford Stadium. Tickets are on sale now via the club’s ticketing page online. Tapes-up is at 7.30pm.
Leicester Lion Cubs 50: Max Clegg 3+1, Ashton Boughen 12, Max Perry 10, Tom Spencer 4+2, Joe Thompson 14, Vinnie Foord 1+1, Max James 6+2.
