PREVIEW: High-flying Cheetahs focused on Bears’ Sunday visit

Speedway roars into Oxford Stadium on a Sunday for the first time in sixteen years tomorrow when the Monarch Cheetahs host Redcar Bears in the Cab Direct Championship Play-Offs.

Fresh from Friday night’s extraordinary come-from-behind win against the Yorkshire outfit, Cheetahs go wheel-to-wheel for a second time in 48 hours against Gavin Parr’s men owing to Wednesday’s initial postponement.

Victory on home shale would setup a mouth-watering final Group B Play-Off tie away to Glasgow Tigers on Tuesday night at Ashfield Stadium – a fixture which will play a significant role in deciding who advances to the Grand Final.

Despite the prospect of winning a third successive Play-Off meeting, Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck is remaining grounded and underlined his position that only half the job in front of his men is done.

“We’re two meetings down with two victories under our belt, so we can’t ask for more really,” said Schroeck. “But we have two more Group B fixtures to go and we’ve got to match the performances we’ve delivered in our first block of fixtures if we’re to challenge for a Grand Final spot.

“Nothing is decided yet and we certainly can’t rely on our good home form to get us past Redcar on Sunday. They’ll be hugely disappointed with the outcome of Friday’s meeting, and how they raced in the first half of the meeting proves their strength when the team rides to its full potential.

“Everyone is fired up and we’re hopeful of travelling to Glasgow with our 100% record intact.”

Tapes-up at Oxford Stadium for the Monarch Cheetahs’ Cab Direct Championship Play-Off Group B fixture against Redcar Bears on Sunday, September 24, is at 5.30pm. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased via the club website.
