PREVIEW: Chargers in new challenge at Buxton

DEFENDING champions Real Mini Company Oxford Chargers visit WSRA National League newcomers Buxton Bulls for the first-time at the Hi-Edge Raceway tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, 3pm).

The last time an Oxford side visited Buxton Speedway was back in 2007, nearly 20 years ago. The track has a unique location and is probably the highest altitude track in British Speedway in the rolling Derbyshire countryside, with the High Peak area on the outskirts of the Peak District.

Oxford are currently in the third place in the NL table. Chargers will use rider replacement for the injured Senna Summers. Meanwhile, unattached 15-year-old rider Emerson Betty makes his first-ever appearance at NL level, in place of the retired Mason Watson.

Chargers’ team manager Peter Schroeck says: “It’s a track I’ve never visited before, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been told it’s quite unique, while they’ve put plenty of investment into Buxton Speedway this season, so I’m going to enjoy seeing the set-up. The WSRA National League is the grassroots of British Speedway.

“As usual, I’m just asking for the boys to put in their all on Sunday afternoon and we’ll see where that takes us.”

The next meeting at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium is next Wednesday (August 5) at 7.30pm, when the SD Timmo Car Sales Oxford Cheetahs take on league leaders Scunthorpe Scorpions in Cab Direct Championship action.
