Another top night ahead at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium, with league leaders Scunthorpe in town on Wednesday evening

SD TIMMO CAR SALES Oxford Cheetahs are looking to extend their unbeaten run in home meetings to five meetings, when they host Cab Direct Championship leaders Scunthorpe Scorpions at the Bet Goodwin Oxford Stadium on Wednesday evening (August 5) at 7.30pm.

Accompanied children are again free, as they are throughout the whole season at Oxford Speedway.

Last Friday saw a thrilling 45-45 draw between Cheetahs and title favourites Poole Pirates and another classic meeting could be on the cards this week. Scunthorpe were not among the favourites pre-season, but the mixture of No 1 Josh Pickering with a largely youthful side has proved a winning combination.

Oxford promoter Jamie Courtney says: “Scunthorpe were dismissed by many on social media as Josh Pickering and six others, but they’ve found their feet on the road in addition to their usual near-fortress at their Eddie Wright Raceway in North Lincolnshire.

“Luke Harrison and Nathan Ablitt are among the back-up for the mercurial Pickering. Josh’s clashes with Sam Masters – not to mention Anders Rowe, Luke Killeen and Mitch McDiarmid – surely makes attendance a must on Wednesday.

“Cheetahs dug deep against Poole last Friday – after being reduced to five riders for most of the night – and showed their mettle. Scunthorpe are another tough test, but we have every confidence in our riders.”

Admission is available at the early bird price of £21 for all adults, which increases to £23 on Race Day. All under-16s go free. Spectators are also reminded that they will need to pay £2 when booking their ticket if they are planning to park in the Unipart car park. Parking at the Unipart car park is now fully restored and the club thank Unipart for their co-operation.

On Race Day, there is now also the chance to buy tickets by cash or card at the box office from 6pm.

Meanwhile, the club would like to thank everyone who contributed to the collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund last Friday. A fantastic total of £1705.05 was raised for the charity, that raises funds for both long-term and short-term injured speedway riders.
