(Please note meeting now postponed) PREVIEW: Edward Kennett makes club debut, as Oxford Cheetahs entertain Redcar Bears

* PLEASE note that this meeting has now been postponed due to rain

SD TIMMO CAR SALES Oxford Cheetahs are looking for a second successive home victory in the Cab Direct Championship, when they host the Redcar Bears at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium on Wednesday (June 3) evening at 7.30pm.

Cheetahs commenced their home league fixtures last week, with a hard-fought 50-40 victory over Edinburgh Monarchs.

New signing Edward Kennett – a 28-day replacement for Erik Riss – makes his debut for Cheetahs. Kennett brings a wealth of experience to Cheetahs – the 39-year-old twice finished second in the British Final, while he was British Under-21 Champion in both 2005 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Luke Harrison will guest for Luke Killeen, with Killeen still ruled out of action with a rib injury.

For Redcar, their No 1 Nicolai Klindt is riding in Denmark and their former rider Danny King will come in to replace him.

Cheetahs’ manager Peter Schroeck said: “Redcar Bears have been struggling a bit recently, but there’s no way we will under-estimate them, especially since they are a wounded animal and will be keen to bounce back. Every side in the Cab Direct Championship is competitive.

“The boys know there is a job to be done against the Bears. We rode well as a team against Edinburgh, with points across the board and another display like that would be more than welcome.

“Edward Kennett is not coming in completely from the cold – he’s been doing grasstrack, riding uprights and other bits and pieces. His career was cut short by injury, but he’s now fully recovered and ready to go again.

“It made a lot of sense to sign a rider based in this country. It can become a logistical nightmare when signing a rider based in Europe during the season – we know that from experience. A big thank you to Nick Morris and all the other riders who have stood in for Erik, but we couldn’t keep on using guests. Otherwise, we could end up going, for example, to Plymouth and finding no-one is available to guest that night. We need seven of our own riders.”

Tickets are on sale at the Oxford Speedway website at: https://oxfordspeedway.club/tickets/

Admission is available at the early bird price of £21 for all adults, which increases to £23 on Race Day. All under-16s go free. A reminder that Oxford Speedway is online ticket sales only – tickets remain on sale on the website until the start-time of the meeting.

Spectators are also reminded that they will need to pay £2 when booking their ticket if they are planning to park in the Unipart car park. Parking at the Unipart car park is now fully restored and the club thank Unipart for their co-operation.
