PREVIEW: Important fixture for Oxford Cheetahs, as they seek home victory over Edinburgh Monarchs at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium
SD TIMMO CAR SALES Oxford Cheetahs commence their home league fixtures in the Cab Direct Championship against the Edinburgh Monarchs at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium on Wednesday (May 27) evening at 7.30pm.
Cheetahs have again booked Nick Morris as a guest for the ill Erik Riss. The German star is aiming to return for the home fixture against Redcar next week. Morris top scored for Cheetahs in a cup fixture at Poole last week.
Darryl Ritchings will return from injury for Cheetahs – he won a grasstrack meeting at the weekend. Luke Killeen has completed his mandatory concussion break, but he withdrew from a meeting at Belle Vue on Monday after aggravating a rib injury. He will face a fitness test for the clash against Edinburgh.
For Monarchs, No 1 Dan Thompson is sidelined with a collarbone injury and is replaced by Drew Kemp.
Oxford lost the corresponding fixture in Scotland by 36-54 on a night when only three of their regular seven riders were available.
Cheetahs’ manager Peter Schroeck said: “The league is the main competition and our focus for the rest of the season. The starting point is making sure you win your home fixtures – that’s the main building block. After that, you can also concentrate on winning away meetings and aggregate bonus points, but winning at home is the key to having a successful season.
“Our next two fixtures – against Edinburgh this Wednesday and against Redcar next week – are home meetings and we need to win them both.
“It’s half-term week, and the weather is set to be glorious, so what better way to spend Wednesday evening than supporting the Oxford Cheetahs!
“As for Erik, I appreciate it’s been frustrating, although it’s been the most frustrating for Erik himself. But I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel. Erik is travelling to Germany this week, to do some intense practice on his own track. He is feeling that he is ready to try racing again, but wants to make sure he is 100 per cent with his vision before he does so. He wants to be ready for our meeting against Redcar next week.”
Tickets are on sale at the Oxford Speedway website at: https://oxfordspeedway.club/tickets/
