Anders Rowe just five rides away from 2027 Grand Prix series, after sensational performance at Glasgow

SD TIMMO CAR SALES Oxford Cheetahs’ heat-leader Anders Rowe finished a brilliant third in the Grand Prix Qualifier at Glasgow yesterday evening (Saturday) – and is now just one meeting away from joining the best riders in the world in the 2027 Grand Prix series.

Rowe didn’t head in the meeting as one of the favourites. He scored just four points for Cheetahs in the 50-40 victory over Edinburgh at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium last Wednesday. The meeting in Scotland was held in changeable weather conditions, with rain for some of the proceedings.

Rowe scored nine points from his opening four rides, including passing former Cheetah Jonas Knudsen to win Heat 8.

His last programmed ride in Heat 17 looked mega-tough, and had an element of ‘winner takes all’ about it. He jetted away ahead of Frederik Jakobsen and Chris Harris.

That left Rowe on 12 points and sealed his place in the Grand Prix Challenge in Terenzano, Italy on July 25, where the top four will qualify for the 2027 GP Series.

He still had one further ride, a run-off for second place with World No 5 Jack Holder. He lost that, although his main objective had already been achieved.

Germany’s Kai Huckenbeck won the meeting with a classy 15-point maximum, while Jakobsen and Harris edged out former Oxford rider Maciej Janowski in a three-man run-off for fourth and fifth – the final two qualifying places.

Rowe said: “I came into the meeting with no expectations. I had a bad week. I just went out there with no pressure and have some fun and enjoy my racing again.”

The 23-year-old is back in action for SD Timmo Car Sales Oxford Cheetahs at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium on Wednesday (June 3) at 7.30pm, for a Cab Direct Championship clash with Redcar Bears. Tickets are on sale on the Oxford Speedway website at: https://oxfordspeedway.club/tickets/

Rowe is also the first reserve for the big British Grand Prix weekend in Manchester on Friday and Saturday (June 5 and 6).
