PREVIEW: Spires seek Bank Holiday Monday victory at BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium

BETGOODWIN Oxford Spires are looking forward to their penultimate meeting of the season when they host King’s Lynn Stars in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday evening (August 25) at 7.30pm.

The meeting will conclude a busy Bank Holiday at Sandy Lane, since league leaders Real Mini Company Oxford Chargers powered by AW Mobbs will be in action against the Steelers on Sunday afternoon (August 24) at 3pm, in their final WSRA National League home fixture.

Spires have completed their away fixtures, and have just two meetings left – the home fixtures to King’s Lynn and Leicester. Stars won the previous two clashes between the sides at Cowley this season – in the Knockout Cup and the previous Premiership clash – and Spires are seeking redemption.

Spires continue to promote 17-year-old Australian Mitch McDiarmid from the SD Timmo Car Sales Oxford Cheetahs powered by County Plumbing Supplies in place of Erik Riss, who remains sidelined by a serious illness. McDiarmid has impressed for Spires, scoring paid 27 from 21 rides for an average of 5.14.

Oxford manager Peter Schroeck says: “We’re looking for good results in our two concluding meetings for the BetGoodwin Oxford Spires this season, at home to King’s Lynn and Leicester. Every team wants to finish the season strongly, no matter how their season has gone.

“We didn’t have a good meeting at King’s Lynn last Monday. I felt Spires had put in some improved performances recently, with good showings at Ipswich and Leicester. However, we had one of those nights at King’s Lynn where nothing went right, but we’ve drawn a line under that.

“The last three home meetings for Spires at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium against Ipswich, Belle Vue and Sheffield have all provided good entertainment and gone to the very final race, and this time around against King’s Lynn, we’ll be doing all we can to make sure the result ends up in our favour. We want give our loyal fans something to cheer about in Spires’ final two home meetings of the season.”
