Erik Riss scores four points in German Grand Prix
BETGOODWIN Oxford Spires’ German star Erik Riss was in the thick of the action in the German Speedway Grand Prix at Landshut last night (Saturday) – the opening round of the 2025 series.
Riss – twice a World Longtrack Champion – was nominated as the wildcard rider for the meeting on the basis of his strong early-season form, including a brilliant 20-point tally for Spires at home to Ipswich.
He didn’t look out of place amongst the world’s best riders, and looked a cut above Germany’s permanent Grand Prix rider Kai Huckenbeck.
Riss started with a last place in Heat 4, before taking four third places – including defeating World No 2 Robert Lambert in Heat 16. Riss was the early leader of that race, before Jack Holder and World Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik thrust inside him in ruthless style.
Riss lost out on one point, when Heat 19 was halted while he was in second place, after fourth-placed Jason Doyle fell. He finished third in the re-run.
A healthy number of Oxford fans watched the action, while attending the Supporters’ Club barbeque in the Joey Beauchamp Sports Bar at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium.
