LATVIAN FRANCIS GUSTS COMPLETES SPIRES SEPTET

Latvian International Francis Gusts becomes the final 2025 Oxford Spire and completes the team building for all three of the Oxford Speedway Teams competing in 2025.

Gusts, who celebrated his twenty second birthday a couple of weeks ago, has an impressive speedway pedigree for such a young rider.

He won the 2021 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship and helped Latvia to the Under 19 European Pairs title the same year. He currently rides alongside Maciej Janowski for Wroclaw in the Polish Ekstraliga.

Gusts has also represented Latvia in the Speedway of Nations and been the Latvian Wildcard in the 2023 Grand Prix series.

It is expected that Gusts will join Luke Killeen at reserve, although the club are awaiting confirmation of his assessed average.

Promoter Jamie Courtney was delighted to finally complete the team building

“This has been the longest winter trying to finalise the three teams

“At the end of October last year we believed that the Spires team was in place however, a couple of unexpected complications meant that I had to go back to the drawing board

“I have worked day and night to find the right seven riders for Oxford. In the end I am delighted to have signed Francis

“He is young and enthusiastic, exciting to watch and is someone destined for good things in this sport. Most importantly he wants to be a part of what we are creating at Oxford.

Courtney acknowledges that team building is a numbers game

“We have two riders on assessed averages which always makes team building tricky, I am confident that come the end of April the true strength of this team will be obvious to everyone”.
