PREVIEW: Monarch Cheetahs seek to sign off in BSN Series with victory

MONARCH Oxford Cheetahs’ manager Peter Schroeck is aiming for his side to take victory in their final BSN Series Southern Group match with the Poole Pirates at Oxford Stadium on Wednesday (8pm).

The meeting starts 30 minutes later than usual due to other activities that were originally planned during the day.

Cheetahs lost 29-61 to Pirates on Good Friday, but are looking to gain revenge at Sandy Lane.

With Poole’s Zach Cook having declared himself fit after a crash at Berwick on Saturday, both teams are set to be at full strength.

Schroeck said: “We will certainly be looking to get one over the Pirates. There is a keen rivalry between the two clubs and our clashes are always well attended. We’re expecting a lot of Poole fans to travel up from the South Coast and it will be a good atmosphere on the terraces.

“Poole turned us over at Wimborne Road on Good Friday. But Cheetahs head into the meeting on the back of an excellent victory over Glasgow in the cup at Oxford last Wednesday and we will be looking for another positive home performance, heading into our league matches in the Cab Direct Championship which commence against Redcar next week.

“Pride is at stake and Poole have much more to lose than we do, so our boys can enjoy the evening and we’ll do everything we can to beat the Pirates.”
