PREMIERSHIP: Spires see off determined King’s Lynn
Oxford Spires returned to winning ways on Thursday evening when beating King’s Lynn Stars 47-43 at Sandy Lane.
Peter Schroeck’s side came from four points behind to win by as many as Australian Champion Rohan Tungate raced to a match-winning 13+1 haul while guest Scott Nicholls weighed in with a handy 10+1.
There were heat wins too for Charles Wright who overcame a controversial exclusion in his third ride to end the night on a high while Erik Riss took the chequered flag on two occasions on his home debut.
Maciej Janowski managed 5+2 while Chris Harris ended the night on 5 with Ashton Boughen scoring 3.
Schroeck praised Rob Lyon’s Stars after the meeting and said they made it a tough challenge for his riders.
“They pushed us really hard,” said Schroeck. “We knew we couldn’t underestimate King’s Lynn and they’ll leave disappointed not to have taken anything from the meeting.
“Erik (Riss) had a positive home debut which we’re pleased about and Rohan (Tungate) was a real star in our middle order. Everyone contributed points which is important – this is a team sport and when one rider has a bad night it’s important the boys around them step up and that’s what happened.
“Nine points from six meetings is a healthy return, but it’s early days and we’ll keep focused.”
