PREMIERSHIP: Spires all set for King’s Lynn home test

Oxford Spires team manager Peter Schroeck plans on returning to winning ways on Thursday evening when King’s Lynn Stars visit Oxford Stadium in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

Following narrow defeats to Ipswich on home and away shale, Spires welcome their rivals from Norfolk to Sandy Lane for the first time in Oxford Speedway’s new era.

And there’ll be fresh faces in the hosts’ pit corner with Scott Nicholls guesting in place of the absent Lewis Kerr while new signing Erik Riss is set to make his home debut.

The meeting forms part of a bumper evening of top flight action with two other Premiership fixtures scheduled with Ipswich hosting Sheffield and Birmingham travelling to Leicester.

Schroeck wants his new-look Spires squad to be on their a-game on Thursday and maintain the club’s position inside the play-off frame.

“I don’t believe King’s Lynn’s early position in the table reflects the squad’s true ability,” said Schroeck. “They have riders who have been there and done it at Premiership level, and some exciting young talents too.

“They’ve had some misfortune with more meetings called off this season than ones which have gone ahead but Thursday’s forecast is mostly clear and our track has thrown up some quality racing this season.

“Erik (Riss) is pumped for his home debut and having Scott (Nicholls) guest in place of Lewi is a real trump card for us – his knowledge and experience of the track really is invaluable.

“I saw a lot of character in the squad at Ipswich and we want to see more of that as the season progresses. Thursday represents a good chance to get some points on the board and continue to build that confidence, but we won’t be taking King’s Lynn lightly at all.”
