REPORT: Chargers go five points clear after dominant display against Kent

The World Speedway Riders’ Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo took a huge step towards qualifying for the National League Grand Final at Oxford Stadium on Wednesday.

Chargers defeated Kent Royals 64-26 – the second largest victory since the club was formed only last year – to move five points clear at the top of the third-tier table from Belle Vue Colts and Leicester Lion Cubs.

Colts also have two fixtures left to fulfil while Leicester have four meetings to race.

It proved a night to remember for talented teen Jody Scott who registered a paid maximum from his four rides while Jordan Jenkins, Luke Killeen, Henry Atkins and Jacob Clouting all returned with paid double-figure hauls.

Furthermore, every Chargers rider took the chequered flag in front at least once, which delighted Team Manager Peter Schroeck.

“The boys were outstanding tonight,” said Schroeck. “They did the job required and more, so we’re really happy with the end result.

“Credit to Kent because they travelled to us under difficult circumstances tonight missing three of their riders which is tough for any team. But we kept it professional and moved that bit closer to confirming a place in the Grand Final.

“There’s still work to do, and we can’t take our eyes off the ball. But the signs are positive and I have every faith in this squad to beat any team in this division when we’re firing on all cylinders.”

Chargers are next scheduled to return to the track on Wednesday, September 20, when hosting Edinburgh Academy at Oxford Stadium. The club is also due to race Leicester Lion Cubs away from home with a date still to be confirmed.
