PREVIEW: Chargers determined to keep home record running against table-topping Mildenhall
The World Speedway Riders’ Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo host table topping Mildenhall Fen Tigers in a key National League tie at Oxford Stadium on Wednesday.
Buoyed by two wins away from home in as many nights against Edinburgh Academy and Berwick Bullets respectively, Chargers enter the meeting tied on points with second placed Belle Vue Colts.
Above the Manchester outfit is Mildenhall, who have lost only one of their eight competitive fixtures to date.
Chargers will be without reserve pair Luke Killeen and Kelsey Dugard who are both ruled out through injury. Stepping in will be unattached duo Sam Woods and Kai Ward.
Team Manager Peter Schroeck said missing both reserves is a blow, but he still has faith in his side to do the job required and scoop the all-important aggregate bonus point by defeating Tigers by at least three points.
“We gave Mildenhall a real run for their money away from home earlier this season,” said Schroeck. “We weren’t at full strength on that occasion, so I see no reason why we shouldn’t enter this meeting confident of doing a good job.
“What we cannot afford to do is assume this meeting will come and go without incident because we recorded two good results away from home at the weekend. Confidence in the camp is high, but we’ll be grounding those emotions to earth when tapes rise because Mildenhall boast some real quality in their team.
“Alfie Bowtell and Lee Complin are great riders at this level, proven by their averages so far this season. We need to win our home meetings if we’re to achieve our goal of finishing the season in the top two and advancing to the play-off final, so this is a key meeting and one we’re excited for.”
Tapes-up at Oxford Stadium for the WSRA Chargers National League meeting against Mildenhall Fen Tigers is at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £12 adults (£14 on the day) and ALL U16s can enter for FREE.
