REPORT: Monarch Cheetahs advance to KO Cup semi-finals

The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs booked their spot in the Knockout Cup Semi Finals on Friday night when drawing 45-45 with Edinburgh away from home to secure an 18-point win on aggregate (81-99).

Cheetahs were led by top trio Sam Masters, Scott Nicholls and guest Justin Sedgmen on the night. Masters weighed in with an 11-point haul while Nicholls went one better with 12 and Sedgmen posted 10.

Jordan Jenkins continued his positive form by scoring 5+2 while Henry Atkins scored in all bar one of his rides and returned with 3+1. Cameron Heeps chipped in with three points and Luke Killeen scored a single point.

Cheetahs Team Manager Peter Schroeck was delighted to book his side’s spot in the semi finals, although had hoped earlier in the meeting that his side would pick up their first win on the road.

“We were leading by 12 points after just seven heats, so we all shared a bit of disappointment not to win on the night,” said Schroeck. “But we’re in the next round and the boys did exactly what was asked of them so we can’t be too harsh on ourselves at all.

“Edinburgh is a specialist track so to only allow them to be in front during one race out of 15 is a great effort. Everyone pulled together and I’m thrilled with the team’s enthusiasm and commitment in the last 48 hours.

“We’re excited for the semi-finals and look forward to learning who we face.”
