Chargers boss Schroeck will be proud of team’s season regardless of play-off outcome
Oxford Chargers’ team manager Peter Schroeck said he will be proud of his squad’s achievements this season regardless of what happens north of the boarder this evening.
The Chargers will learn if they have qualified for the National League end-of-season play-offs following Belle Vue Colts’ trip to Armadale Devils in Edinburgh tonight.
Should Manchester-based Colts lose to Armadale by seven points or more, then Chargers’ season will be extended by joining Mildenhall, Berwick and Leicester in the play-offs.
Any other result will see the club’s inaugural campaign draw to a close.
Despite sitting bottom of the table, Schroeck has every faith that Armadale can cause an upset on home shale tonight.
“It’s out of our hands and we just have to hope Armadale can pick up the points needed,” said Schroeck. “It’s certainly not out of the question. Belle Vue’s track is a total contrast to Armadale and the visiting riders will take some adjusting.
“We saw this at Plymouth earlier in the season, and still to this day Belle Vue are the only team to have lost at the Coliseum this season in the third tier.
“Whatever happens, our boys can be proud of their efforts this season. For them, it would have been a real priviledge to represent Oxford in the club’s regeneration campaign and we cannot fault their efforts.
“The entertainment they’ve delivered on track has drawn in National League crowds the like of which we haven’t seen in many years. We’ve got to stay positive and keep our fingers crossed for a result that swings in our favour this evening.”
