PREVIEW: Winner takes it all in BSN Series showdown at Poole for Cheetahs

SD TIMMO CAR SALES Oxford Cheetahs can clinch qualification to the semi-finals of the BSN Series in the concluding match of the Southern Section at Poole’s Wimborne Road tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.

Plymouth have concluded their matches and are out of contention, so it comes down to a straight shoot-out between Oxford Cheetahs and Poole Pirates. Cheetahs need either a win or draw to progress as group winners, while Pirates would qualify with a victory.

With the highest-scoring runner-up across the three groups also progressing to the semi-finals, there’s a chance that the losers could also make it through. Cheetahs currently hold a 51-39 advantage in terms of the aggregate bonus point. Neither the Northern or Scottish groups have yet been concluded, so neither team can bank on that and will want to win at Wimborne Road.

Cheetahs have booked Jason Edwards as a guest for German star Erik Riss, who remains sidelined through illness.

Oxford team manager Peter Schroeck said: “We’re heading to Poole with confidence on our side. Many teams are defeated before the start of Heat 1 down there, but we’ve won at Wimborne Road in both of the last two seasons and we’ll head to the South Coast with a positive attitude.

“We know that Poole won’t under-estimate us and will be on full alert, but we’ll concentrate on our performance and we’ll see where that takes us.”

The next scheduled meeting at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium is on Wednesday, May 13 at 7.30pm, when the SD Timmo Car Sales Oxford Cheetahs take on Edinburgh Monarchs in the Cab Direct Championship. Please note there is currently a reserved date for Cheetahs at Oxford on Wednesday, May 6, and there may be a home meeting on this date.
