Spires Make Changes Ahead of Crucial Local Derby
The BetGoodwin Oxford Spires have made a change to their line-up ahead of the crucial May Bank Holiday Double Header against the Birmingham Brummies.
The Spires have yet to win a meeting in 2025 and it has become necessary to strengthen the team to increase scoring potential.
Team Manager, Peter Schroeck, explains
“When the top five in the team are firing, you are able to carry the reserves until they get into their stride however, when they struggle you need to have reserves that can score”
Unfortunately, this means that the club say Au Revoir to the talented young Latvian, Francis Gusts
“It is not Francis’ fault, he is seeing these tracks for the first time and needs more experience which we can not give him at the moment
Schroeck continued
“This is not the end for Francis and I hope to see him in Oxford colours again in the future”
Craig Cook will join the Spires and ride at number six, partnering ‘Rising Star’ Luke Killeen, Schroeck is excited about the change
“Craig did a great job for us covering for injury last year and was keen to return to the club
“He has proven point scoring ability at this level and will form a strong partnership with Luke in heat two” he concluded.
Craig Cook will make his Spires debut on Monday 05 May, with home and away meetings against the Birmingham Brummies.
Tickets are on sale now at www.oxfordspeedway.club/tickets and the first 600 attendees on Monday will receive a voucher for a free pint or soft drink.
