Oxford Speedway

Au-Revoir to Henry Atkins

Oxford Speedway can confirm that Henry Atkins has decided he will not return to Speedway following his current injury.

Atkins suffered a broken finger, which required plating, back in early May. He has been struggling to gain full use of his clutch hand and he remains on the sidelines.

Atkins was philosophical when explaining his decision
“Riding in just the one league this year means I’ve had to work and run my business more to keep money coming in.

“My mind hasn’t 100% been on my racing and to achieve the very best I need to be 100% focused which I was struggling with.”

Henry was keen to thank those who have played such an important part in his speedway and grasstrack career
“I would firstly like to thank my dad and family for supporting me, giving me the opportunity and always believing in me. Without you I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have.

“I would also like to thank Jamie, Peter and Kevin for giving me the opportunity to ride for Oxford and show what I am capable of.

“Special thanks to Andrew Appleton and his family for producing the best equipment for me to race on.

“Lastly thank you to my loyal sponsors. You’ve helped to fund my racing for 17 years and I couldn’t have done it would you all.”

Atkins was an ever present for the Cheetahs and Chargers in a hugely successful 2023. Atkins was the Chargers top scorer in 2023 and was vital in the Chargers claiming the National Development Title on the final day of the 2023 season.

A disappointed team manager Peter Schroeck summed up the feelings of many
“Henry has been a huge part of the club since our rebirth in 2022 and he will be missed by everyone, I wish him the very best in whatever the future brings

“I have asked him not to be a stranger, Henry will always have a warm welcome here at Sandy Lane” he concluded.

Everyone at Oxford Speedway, on both sides of the fence, echo those sentiments and will look forward to welcoming Henry to Oxford when he is able to attend.
