Drew Kemp Joins the Spires
Young British Star Drew Kemp has been signed up to join the OXS Oxford Spires and will make his debut at Sandy Lane on Monday Night when the Spires welcome the Sheffield Star Tigers.
The 21-year-old Brit, will come in with an average of 4.45 and will line up at number two, partnering Rohan Tungate.
It means that Oxford will have to say au-revoir to fan favourite Lewis Kerr, and Team Manager Pete Schroeck was keen to explain why he had taken the difficult decision
“Lewis has admitted that since returning from his injury this year, he has not been able to score at the level he was at the start of the season, and I felt that we needed to do something to maintain our push for a play-off spot”
Schroeck also gave credit to Kerr
“Lewis is a great rider and I want to publicly thank him for all his efforts under difficult circumstances”
Schroeck also reassured the Oxford fans that if required further changes would be made
“Since Brexit, it is not as easy to bring in European riders with work permits harder to come by, especially as this is our first season in the Premiership. I have faith in the team we have however, we will always keep our options open”
Drew Kemp has Premiership experience with Leicester from the start of the season, however, was let go a few weeks ago
“This is an opportunity for Drew to demonstrate that he is capable of scoring good points in this league” Schroeck concluded.
Everyone at Oxford Speedway wishes Lewis Kerr well and we look forward to seeing him when he visits with the Berwick Bandits at the end of July.
