PREVIEW: CHEETAHS AIM TO MAINTAIN WINNING FORM
The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs travel North on Saturday where they will take on Championship newcomers the Workington Comets in Cab Direct Championship League action.
Workington have had a long history in the sport, and the club being in an out of the leagues they have had their own recreation over the last couple of years with a brand new purpose built facility opening last year. They announced their intention to move into the Championship before the end of last season and have had an impressive start to their campaign.
They topped their group in the BSN series and are currently in second place in the Championship league table, winning both their home meetings and picking up a win on the road at Plymouth.
The Comets were not particularly fancied pre-season and have certainly made the rest of the league take notice. They boast ex Cheetah Troy Batchelor, current Spire Craig Cook as well as the only female speedway rider in the UK, Celina Liebmann.
Oxford continue to be without Henry Atkins and will use Rider Replacement again from number two.
Following his impressive scores in the National League, Jody Scott will also travel with the team as number eight. Ashton Boughen and Jody Scott will be the only Cheetahs with any experience of the Workington circuit.
The new Workington track has no lighting and therefore meetings are held in the afternoon, with tapes up at 3pm.
