PREVIEW: Cheetahs raring to go ahead of Middlesbrough trip

The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs resume their Cab Direct Championship Play-Off campaign on the road tonight against the Redcar Bears for the club’s latest Group B fixture.

The Cheetahs are targeting back-to-back Play-Off wins over the weekend as they make the trip up to Middlesbrough before returning to OX4 on Sunday for their rescheduled home Play-Off leg.

The Cheetahs made the perfect start to their Play-Off campaign last week when beating Glasgow Tigers 50-40 in a thrill-a-minute fixture at Sandy Lane which was only decided in the penultimate race.

Peter Schroeck’s side’s attention now switches to their second Group B rivals the Redcar Bears this evening. Bears will be without number one Charles Wright who sustained multiple vertebrae and rib fractures plus damage to his neck, chest and arm in a horror crash in Wroclaw, Poland, only last week.

“After making the difficult decision to postpone Wednesday night’s home fixture due to bad weather, the team are raring to go,” said Schroeck. “Tonight, I want to see us on it from the off and continue to build on the positive momentum we established in our Play-Off campaign last week.

“It’s obviously a big blow for Redcar to lose Charles and we wish him well in his recovery. But, like every team at this level, they have riders in their squad who can do some serious damage if we give them any sniff of an opportunity.

“This is an important meeting for us and one the boys have been eager to get going, especially after the positive end to last week’s meeting. We’ll be prepared, focused, and approach this fixture as we would any other.”
