REPORT: Determined Cheetahs in seventh heaven after Scunthorpe super-heat win

The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs went six points clear at the top of the Cab Direct Championship table on Friday night when beating Scunthorpe in a dramatic super-heat.

Scorpions pegged back a six-point deficit in the concluding four heats to tie the meeting 45-45 and prompt Cheetahs’ first super-heat of the club’s new era.

Lewis Kerr and Scott Nicholls were selected to represent Cheetahs by Team Manager Peter Schroeck, while Ryan Douglas and Jake Allen lined up for the hosts.

The visiting pair started well and held onto the minor points scoring positions to secure a ‘4-5’ and scoop the maximum two Championship points on offer. It means Cheetahs are yet to drop a single league point with almost half of the season completed.

Schroeck piled praise onto his riders after the meeting, describing their collective effort as an ultimate team performance.

“Every played a crucial role in tonight’s win,” said Schroeck. “We entered as the form team, but I think it’s fair to say we were the underdogs given Scunthorpe’s home track advantage.

“From one to seven, the boys can be proud of their performance. Ryan (Kinsley) was a bit gutted to end the night with two last places after starting with a win, but that victory in heat two really put us on the front foot in those early heats.

“We minimised last places and that’s what wins you speedway meetings. I’m so proud of the team performance and now we want to beat Berwick on Wednesday and reach the half-way point of the season with maximum points in the bag.

“We’ll celebrate the result, but quickly refocus and ensure we prepare for our return to home shale as we do with every other home meeting.”

The Monarch Cheetahs are back in action on Wednesday, July 5, when hosting Berwick Bandits in the Cab Direct Championship at Oxford Stadium. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by clicking here.
