PREVIEW: Table topping Cheetahs target a hat-trick of wins on the road at Plymouth

The high-flying Monarch Oxford Cheetahs journey to Devon on Tuesday night to face Plymouth Gladiators in the Cab Direct Championship at Plymouth Coliseum (7pm).

Cheetahs sit top of the nine-team division with one quarter of their campaign complete and are unbeaten in four matches with wins over Redcar and Birmingham on home shale.

Peter Schroeck’s side have tasted success on the road too against the Brummies earlier this month and at Shielfield Park when racing Berwick Bandits on Saturday.

But Tuesday’s trip to the tight and technical Plymouth circuit will present a different challenge altogether. And Schroeck is forecasting a tough battle against Garry May’s septet.

“Saturday (at Berwick) was another high point for the Cheetahs squad and our confidence and team spirit has really grown in recent weeks,” said Schroeck. “But how riders tackle the Plymouth track could not be further from the style required in Berwick.

“This is a technical circuit where starts can be crucial. Much like at Oxford, it’s a short run to the first turn. But here, as soon as you drop the clutch, you’re always turning which limits opportunities to get your wheels in line.

“We’ve performed well at Plymouth in the past, though, so we’re entering this meeting with a winning mentality knowing we’re capable of stretching our unbeaten run.”

Cheetahs are unchanged from Saturday’s win in Northumberland with Lewis Kerr declared fit to ride despite withdrawing from the meeting after a crash in heat one.

Tapes-up at the Plymouth Coliseum is at 7pm. The Monarch Cheetahs return to Oxford Stadium 24 hours later when hosting Poole Pirates in another Cab Direct Championship match.

Adults are priced £20 and ALL U16s go free. Tickets are on sale via our ticketing page.

Monarch Cheetahs: Sam Masters, Cameron Heeps, Lewis Kerr, Jordan Jenkins, Scott Nicholls, Henry Atkins, Ryan Kinsley.
