World Speedway Riders’ Association partner with Oxford Speedway to back the Chargers in 2023

Oxford Speedway is pleased to formalise a new partnership with the World Speedway Riders’ Association who have committed to backing the Oxford Chargers in 2023.

The National League club will be known as the Oxford WSRA Chargers through their upcoming campaign which begins in May when British Speedway’s third tier resumes after the winter break.

Founded in 1957 as the Veteran Speedway Riders’ Association, the WSRA was established to provide ex-riders with a platform to keep in touch with former teammates and peers upon retirement.

Today, the WSRA boasts over 600 members and operates a thriving social calendar from its headquarters at the Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire which is also home to the National Speedway Museum.

Peter Sampson, of the WSRA and founder of Paradise Wildlife Park developed the National Speedway Museum.

He said supporting the next generation of speedway riders and helping young British talent to realise their true potential is an important commitment for the WSRA to fulfil.

“Many of our members enjoyed a memorable riding career which we all look back on with great fondness,” said Peter. “The National League has been home to the future of British Speedway ever since the sport’s third tier was launched in the 1990s.

“As much as our work is focused on supporting more senior members of the speedway community, we are pleased to enter a new partnership with Oxford Speedway and help back some of the UK’s most promising young riders.

“The regeneration of Oxford has inspired many to reconnect with the sport which was seemingly lost forever when the club closed in 2007. We’re proud to be at the heart of Oxford Chargers’ second campaign and look forward to supporting the team and hosting our members at Oxford Stadium very soon.”

“As a trustee of the WSRA, I see first-hand the positive impact the team’s work has and already this year is looking like an exceptionally busy period with lots of events planned.”
