PREVIEW: Chargers in battle between two unbeaten sides on Sunday

REAL MINI COMPANY Oxford Chargers powered by AW Mobbs host table-topping Edinburgh Monarchs Academy in a WSRA National League clash at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium on Sunday (May 25), in an afternoon meeting commencing at 3pm.

While it’s still early days in the WSRA National League season, both teams have a 100 per cent record in 2025. Chargers beat Middlesbrough Tigers by 48-42 at Cowley a month ago, while Edinburgh Monarchs Academy also defeated Middlesbrough at home by the same scoreline, in addition to a 49-39 home victory over Belle Vue.

If Chargers beat Academy by six points or more, they will replace their opponents at the top of the NL table.

Since Chargers were last in action, two of their number have been signed up to also ride at Cab Direct Championship level – skipper Jody Scott at Redcar and Darryl Ritchings at Poole. Both Scott and Senna Summers were in action at the British Under-21 Final at Glasgow last Sunday, with Scott reaching the semi-final.

Oxford team manager Peter Schroeck said: “I can’t wait for the meeting between the Chargers and the Edinburgh Academy – it’s always a delight to be involved with the Chargers and helping them develop as speedway riders.

“It’s been almost a month since the Chargers took to the track as a complete team and we beat Middlesbrough. Since then, the creation of the parallel National Trophy competition has meant the boys have still been clocking valuable track time.

“Jody is now riding for Redcar in the Cab Direct Championship and Darryl for Poole and I’m always pleased to see our riders making progress up the ladder – the WSRA National League is all about rider development.

“Edinburgh will be no pushovers, because they’ve already won a couple of meetings this season. As always, there will be no pressure placed on our lads – we’ll just be helping them to achieve their best on the afternoon. Our home meetings with the Chargers are always exciting and full of action.”

Tickets are already on sale on the Oxford Speedway website at https://oxfordspeedway.club/tickets/

Admission is available at the early bird price of £13 for all adults, which increases to £15 on Race Day. All under-16s go free. A reminder that Oxford Speedway is online ticket sales only – tickets remain on sale on the website until the start-time of the meeting.

Please note there will be no Unipart car park available for this meeting. On-site parking at the stadium is available for just £2, but it must be purchased at the same time as your online ticket. Any parking passes still apply.
