Cheetahs Championship Grand Final Sets Sail
The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs set sail to take on the Poole Pirates in what is now the first leg of the Cab Direct Championship Grand Final this Friday.
Following the heavy rain all week, and with more forecast, an early decision was made to call off the first leg at Oxford on Wednesday, meaning that the Pirates will now host the first leg on Friday at their Wimborne Rd home.
Oxford, with the cooperation of the Poole management, have moved quickly to rearrange the home leg for Saturday 05 October 2024 at Sandy Lane at 7.30pm. This will be the first Saturday speedway fixture at Cowley for fifty-six years.
On Saturday 13 July 1968 the Oxford Cheetahs beat the Newport Wasps 54 to 24 in a meeting scheduled to avoid the British Final being held at Wimbledon.
Looking forward to the Grand Final clash, Team Manager Pete Schroeck was keeping his feet firmly planted on the ground
“We will go there and give it our best, keeping it as close as possible for the second leg.”
He also paid tribute to the story of the reborn Oxford Cheetahs and that reaching the final was a cause for celebration
“This is a celebration of the incredible work everybody is putting in behind the scenes and is a really exciting time for sport in Oxford”.
Oxford have booked Dan Gilkes as a guest for Jordan Jenkins, and he will be riding at number two, with Cameron Heeps moving to number four.
Teams:
Poole: Richard Lawson, Sam Hagon, Chris Harris, Zach Cook, Tom Brennan, Tobias Thomsen, Vinnie Ford
Oxford: Sam Masters, Dan Gilkes, Ashton Boughen, Cameron Heeps, Scott Nicholls, Luke Killeen, Jody Scott
Fixture Update:
The British Under 19 Championship has been rescheduled for Sunday 06 October 2024 with tapes up at 3pm.
