Scott Nicholls seeks home victory for Cheetahs in Championship Pairs

MONARCH Oxford Cheetahs’ skipper Scott Nicholls is chasing victory when he combines with Sam Masters in the Championship Pairs at Oxford Stadium on Friday evening (7.30pm).

It’s a busy week for speedway legend Nicholls – a record-breaking seven-time British Champion – who also launches his much-anticipated autobiography Sliding Through Life at the fanzone at the British Grand Prix in Cardiff on Saturday.

Nicholls said: “Sam and I work very well together and we have a good chemistry on the track.

“No doubt the Championship Pairs is tough – the best riders in the league will be at Oxford and every race is a Heat 13 or 15. But we know we’re capable of winning it.

“If we can win it would be great for Oxford Speedway. It’s a great stadium and a great racetrack, and to win it would be fabulous for the whole club – for the Oxford promotion, our fellow riders and, most importantly, the fans on the terraces.

“We’ll give it the best we can and hopefully come away with that victory.”

There’s a double dose of action at Oxford Stadium this week. Firstly, the OXS Oxford Spires host the King’s Lynn Stars on Thursday (August 15) in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership. A day later, on Friday (August 16), it is the Championship Pairs.
