RACEDAY UPDATE: Oxford Chargers v Scunthorpe Stags

DEFENDING champions Real Mini Company Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo Car Sales are taking on the Scunthorpe Stags in the WSRA National League at Oxford Stadium at 3pm this afternoon (Sunday). The final of Euro 2024 between England and Spain will be shown in the main complex at the stadium this evening, allowing a bumper day of sport for those into both speedway and football.

A couple of updates. As you may have already seen on our social media, today there will be no Unipart car parking or shuttle bus available. But the good news is that you can park at the stadium. All parking will be onsite in our bottom car park starting from 12.30pm. There will be plenty of parking available.

The other update concerns the Scunthorpe Stags at No 7. Sheldon Davies has retired, and the unattached replacement for Stags is 15-year-old William Cairns.

Cairns is a huge prospect in British Speedway and recently finished third in the SGP3 in Gorzow, Poland – effectively the World Championship for Under-16 riders.

This afternoon marks his debut in league racing in Britain. It will almost certainly make the meeting more competitive and the Chargers need your support this afternoon. At the same time, Oxford Stadium – as it did with Jody Scott in May 2022 and Ashton Boughen in October 2022 – will again be the first place to see a talented young prospect ride in the National League. On this occasion, it’s against the Chargers rather than for the Chargers, but again it’s the Oxford supporters who will witness his talents first in league racing. It certainly adds an extra dimension to the meeting, and is another reason that you don’t want to miss it!

The Race Day admission price is just £14 for all adults. All under-16s go free. A reminder that Oxford Speedway is online ticket sales only – tickets remain on sale on the website until the start-time of the meeting.
