BSN Series: Cheetahs head for Devon coast after fine Glasgow win
The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs resume their BSN Series campaign away to Plymouth Gladiators on Saturday evening – and hopes of a result on the road are high.
Fresh from a sensational 54-36 Knockout Cup triumph over defending Cab Direct Championship winners Glasgow Tigers, Cheetahs travel to Devon at full strength with Heat 15 heroes from Wednesday Sam Masters and Scott Nicholls leading the charge.
Victory is necessary if realistic hopes of automatically qualifying for the competition’s semi finals are to remain intact. But it will be no easy task on the south coast with Plymouth already laying down a marker in OX4 this term following last month’s 46-44 result in favour of Peter Schroeck’s side.
The Cheetahs boss is under no illusions regarding Plymouth’s threat. But after a fine display during the week, Schroeck is hopeful his side can continue to build on their positive momentum.
“The boys were on a real high after Wednesday – it was a much deserved aggregate win,” said Schroeck. “The meetings are coming thick and fast, and at this stage of the season there is little time to celebrate the small wins amid our efforts in three competitions at Championship level.
“Plymouth pushed us really hard last month on home shale and there’ll be an even tougher force on their home track. We’ve performed well in Devon before, though, so there’s no reason we can’t begin the meeting targeting all three points.
“That would put us in a good position to qualify either automatically or as the best placed runner-up. We’re determined to get the job done.”
Tapes-up at the Plymouth Coliseum on Saturday is at 7pm.
