Cab Direct KO Cup: Cheetahs head north for Glasgow clash

The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs begin their knockout cup run on Friday night facing off against Glasgow Tigers in the quarter finals of the Cab Direct KO Cup.

Led by seven-times British Champion Scott Nicholls, Cheetahs will travel to Glasgow planning to make a flying start to their cup run.

The Cab Direct KO Cup is a straight knockout tournament, where eight Championship teams race their respective opponents over two legs with the aggregate winner of each progressing to the next round. .

Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck will be looking to continue his side’s winning form after their 46-44 win over Plymouth Gladiators in the BSN Series (Southern).

“It’s been a touch frustrating to have raced as many meetings as those which have been postponed,” said Schroeck. “But the forecast is looking favourable and we’re looking forward to our trip to Glasgow.

“The Cab Direct KO Cup is a competition we want to be successful in. But there’s little room for error, and the teams competing this year are strong.

“I’m confident in these lads, and we have the potential to leave our mark on this tournament.

“But first, we must focus on Glasgow, and booking our place in the semifinals. They’ll be keen to make it their second win on the bounce, so we’ll have to ensure we’re ready comeFriday.”.

This will be the first time both sides go head-to-head in 2024.

Glasgow enter the meeting in positive form having emerged victorious over Berwick Bandits in the BSN Scottish Series, overcoming a six point first leg deficit to win 50-40 in the home leg.

Tapes-up in Scotland is at 7.30pm.
