BSN SERIES: Cheetahs primed for seasonal home debut as Plymouth visit OX4

The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs make their seasonal home track debut on Wednesday night when south coast rivals Plymouth Gladiators visit in the BSN Series Southern Group.

Captained by fans’ favourite and seven-times British Champion Scott Nicholls, Cheetahs return to Sandy Lane with a familiar squad for 2024 with all seven riders having donned the club’s race suit at least once last summer.

Sam Masters, Henry Atkins and Jordan Jenkins all return for second stints as do reserves Ashton Boughen and Luke Killeen while Cameron Heeps remains ever present having signed for the club at the beginning of its 2022 regeneration campaign.

Following a reverse result at Poole on Good Friday, Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck is looking for a response from his septet and is targeting a positive performance on home shale.

“We were all disappointed by our performance away to Poole last month,” said Schroeck. “But we’ve moved on and channelled our focus back this fixture against Plymouth.

“The BSN Series is a cut-throat competition where one aggregate defeat makes it very hard to qualify automatically. So we have to target a big home win against Plymouth to give ourselves every chance of reaching the semi finals.

“Track time has been hard to come by for the team because of the poor weather. But everyone has been keeping themselves busy with responsibilities elsewhere, so I’m not concerned about being race ready.

“Plymouth have one away meeting under their belt and will be wanting to bounce back, so we’ll prepare accordingly and relish the challenge as always.”
