PREVIEW: Chargers set for final league fixture against Edinburgh

The World Speedway Riders Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo will battle it out in a National League fixture hosting Edinburgh Academy at home on Wednesday.

Chargers embark on their final regular season meeting of the year ahead of the league’s Grand Final against the Leicester Lion Cubs which will  decide who is crowned  champions.

After Chargers impressive winning run came to an end at the weekend against the Leicester Lion Cubs (50-38) the team will be looking to end the season on a high. Chargers now set their sights on a win this Wednesday, despite an already secured place in the final.

Team Manager Peter Schroeck hailed the team’s progress and added he is “keen to round off the season with a win” to complete the league campaign unbeaten at home.

He said: “Edinburgh have really held their own this year and are certainly not a team we can take lightly.”

“We’ve worked hard to get to this point of the season and to enter the Grand Final with a win behind us would be a big boost for everyone, so that’s what we’re targeting.”

Unfortunately due to a minor injury, skipper Jordan Jenkins has been ruled out of the fixture. Jordan will be replaced by Alfie Bowtell.

Schroeck said: “Jordan (Jenkins) is taking a couple of days’ rest after his fall on Sunday but Alfie (Bowtell) is a proven rider at this level and we’re pleased to have him onboard. The boys are fired up for this one and maintaining our 100% record at home.”
