PREVIEW: Fixture starved Chargers look to pick up where they left off on home shale

The World Speedway Riders’ Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo race their first home meeting in 62 days on Tuesday when hosting Kent Royals in the National League.

Chargers have been out of action since their successful trip to Cumbria in June where they defeated Workington Comets at the all-new Northside Speedway by 39 points to 51.

The fixture lull has dropped Chargers to fourth in the third-tier table, although Peter Schroeck’s side hold meetings in hand over top trio Leicester, Mildenhall and Belle Vue and are only three points short of top spot.

Kent meanwhile enter the tie fresh from a confidence boosting 50-40 win over Workington on home shale at the weekend. And Schroeck has warned his riders to be on guard when the Sittingbourne-based outfit visit Sandy Lane.

“We’ve got a good record on home shale and confidence in the camp is strong despite not riding as a team for a number of weeks,” said Schroeck. “Kent have relied on their home form to pick-up points, but we can’t afford to be complacent here.

“This is a good opportunity to leap back into the play-off frame and we can’t allow any silly mistakes to jeopardise that.

“I’m excited to see how Luke (Killeen) and Jason (Garrod) pair together at reserve. Luke has been itching to go for a couple of weeks now but the weather simply hasn’t been kind, and Jason is in the same boat.

“We’re entering a busy period now, so it’s key we lay down a marker here and continue our push to qualify for the end-of-season Grand Final.”

Tickets for Oxford Chargers’ National League fixture against Kent Royals are available to purchase via the Oxford Speedway website. Adults are priced £12 (£14 on the day) and ALL U16s go free.

Doors open at 6pm, with tapes-up at 7.30pm.
