PREVIEW: Chargers to ride at full strength when hosting Comets

The World Speedway Riders’ Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo will be at full strength when hosting Workington Comets in the National League on Wednesday night.

Chargers have been off the track for 53 days owing to the unseasonal British weather which postponed the club’s two scheduled home fixtures since Peter Schroeck’s side were last in action at Workington in June.

An unfortunate abandonment at Kent in July means Chargers hold two meetings in hand over the third tier’s top trio – Leicester, Mildenhall and Belle Vue – and sit fourth in the eight-team division with 13 points secured from eight fixtures.

Skipper Jordan Jenkins will lead the hosts’ charge with fellow Monarch Cheetahs teammates Henry Atkins and Luke Killeen also declared to race. Jacob Clouting, Ryan Kinsley and Jody Scott fill the main body of the team while Jason Garrod will make his debut over a month after signing.

Team Manager Peter Schroeck said there will be no excuses when his septet line-up at tapes, despite his riders not racing together as a team for over seven weeks.

“Today (Wednesday) marks the start of a big month for the Chargers,” said Schroeck. “I’ve always had faith in this team to deliver and the weather has frustrated us all in recent weeks.

“But that’s an element we cannot control. What we can control is how we respond to our fixture break by delivering a good performance in front of our supporters.

“The boys have been racing elsewhere so being sharp at the tapes isn’t a concern. Regardless, Workington are in need of points on the road so we’ll need to prepare accordingly and do what we had been doing successfully up until the conclusion of our last fixture.”

Following Wednesday’s home meeting against Workington, the Chargers visit Iwade Stadium on Sunday, August 20, to face the Kent Royals. Another double header follows next week when Chargers host Berwick on Wednesday before travelling to Leicester on Saturday.

Tickets for tonight’s fixture remain on sale and are available to purchase via the club website. Adults are priced £14 and ALL U16s go free! Tapes-up is at 7.30pm.
