PREVIEW: Table topping Chargers seek more points on the road in Kent

The World Speedway Riders’ Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo resume their National League campaign on Sunday afternoon away to Kent Royals.

Fresh from their 12-point triumph in Cumbria last week against Workington, the Chargers visit Kent hoping to upset the hosts’ thus far unbeaten league record on home shale.

The Royals have recorded convincing victories over Berwick Bullets and Belle Vue Colts at Iwade Stadium which has placed them sixth in the eight-team division with half the season completed.

Team Manager Peter Schroeck has called on three-point unattached rider Jason Garrod to guest in place of the absent Luke Killeen while a decision on Kelsey Dugard’s participation in the meeting is to be confirmed.

Schroeck described the Royals as a team capable of maintaining their home record on a track they have good knowledge of.

“We’re in fantastic form and, just like the Cheetahs, the Chargers are entering every meeting full on confidence,” said Schroeck. “Kent is a unique circuit which can take some adjusting to and the early heats will be crucial in the meeting’s outcome.

“We said the same before Friday’s meeting at Scunthorpe with the Cheetahs and came out on the right end of a result. Our priorities remain the same – keep the scores close and then take things from there.

“There’s a lot of pressure on teams in the National League this year with only the top two advancing to the end-of-season play-off final. We’ve got to keep focused and do everything in our control to keep getting points on the board.”

Tapes-up at Iwade Stadium is at 3pm.

WSRA Chargers: Jordan Jenkins, R/R for Kelsey Dugard (TBC), Ryan Kinsley, Jody Scott, Henry Atkins, Jason Garrod (G), Jacob Clouting. Number eight – Ashton Vale.
