PREVIEW: WSRA Chargers fired up for Belle Vue home test

The World Speedway Riders’ Association Oxford Chargers powered by SD Timmo resume their National League campaign on home shale on Wednesday against Belle Vue Colts.

Chargers return to Oxford Stadium exactly a fortnight after lowering the colours of defending champions Leicester Lion Cubs who were beaten 50-39 at Sandy Lane in a closely contested opening fixture.

Fortune has not favoured Peter Schroeck’s side since then with defeats on the road to Belle Vue and Mildenhall plus absences for Jordan Jenkins – who returns to action this week – and Luke Killeen who remains side-lined.

Schroeck remains in positive spirits, though, and sees no reason why his side cannot overturn the formbook and defeat Colts when they travel to OX4.

“This meeting has all the ingredients to be a real thriller,” said Schroeck. “We’re determined to make Oxford Stadium our fortress in the National League this year, but equally Belle Vue will want to complete the double against us.

“We’ve got Jordan (Jenkins) back in the side which is a real boost and Sam (Woods, guest) has plenty of experience at this level coming in as an unattached three-point guest at reserve.

“We can’t allow what happened in our two away fixtures to affect us and the response and vibe in the camp since our trip to Mildenhall has really encouraged me. On our day, I truly believe this team can be a match for any of our rivals at this level.

“It’s a key fixture and one we want to take control of in the early stages.”
